Foreign Policy Speech

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pE23EeMXi4 -

When looking at the foreign policy speech and debate by Jeb Bush I think there were positives and many negative aspects of the debate and what he believed to hold true. Some of the positives were in his personal characteristics in that he showed passion and energy over the topic. During the beginning of the speech Jeb is more held back and uncomfortable, but the more the speech goes on the more comfortable he seems. He states “he had some of these personal problems” when talking about the economy and when he was overseas even trying to afford diapers for his kid. This was a good tactic to relate his own personal experiences with the people. Overall I think Jeb had the most effective strategies that deal with priorities, spending, and action to be President of the United States.

This speech was a little bizarre when I saw it in that it really wasn’t a foreign policy speech, but more a Middle East speech. One thing that got me was Jeb bashing the Clinton and Obama administration for the war in Iraq and what has succumbed from it. What I find to be interesting is that his brother is the main cause for even putting the U.S. in the war and that does not shed lightly with the people. The main things discussed were only about terrorism and state collapse with little talk about other parts of the world that need to be addressed. Jeb makes the comment that we were victorious and giving credit to his brother for winning the war when I don’t think that’s the case. There is still a lot of speculation dealing with the Middle East especially with ISIS right now.

Jeb is almost being a hypocrite in this speech in that he’s basically saying what the Obama administration wants right now, which is to help Iraqi forces and leaders of that country. He’s attacking that administration, but not sounding all that different. It was a little confusing to understand this speech in that it was kind of all over the place.

If I were to give Jeb advice it would be to expand his thoughts in detail on how he can really help this country. We are in need of a President that has better international relations and able to find peace with the surrounding countries. Also, as I have stated before he needs to not relate to his brother or give him praise especially in a topic so fragile in terms of the Middle East. Lastly, I would say he needs to be stronger or tougher if he is to have a chance with his campaign even just against Donald Trump. He tends to be low energy and needs to be more on attack mode.

  1. Do you think Jeb Bush can be fair and impartial when talking about things his brother did? Will this be an issue if he becomes president? Will he have a hard time reversing things his brother did?

  2. Jeb bush is saying things outlaid to public that we the public wanna hear, but no way will he enter office and not be influenced by his family and likely common supporters of the family. Again, to me, Jeb isn't a strong candidate - and would feel at ease with someone else running out country.
